Learn How to Make and Keep Friends
Making and keeping friends can be hard for everyone, but it can be a special challenge for teens with autism.
PEERS is a world-renowned, evidence-based social skills program for teens on the autism spectrum. Developed by UCLA researchers, it is delivered by certified trainers in over 80 countries around the world, including at the Centre.
In this 14-week program, teens will learn:
- Slipping into group conversations
- Trading information
- Choices of friends
- Handling teasing, rumours/gossip
- Coping with arguments
- And more!
PLUS! Parents will learn how to coach and support their teen.
Is PEERS for You?
- Participants must be 13-17 years old
- Must have academic skills at grade 6 or higher
- Verbal abilities to handle fast-paced instruction
- Motivation to attend
- Must have at least one parent (or legal guardian) consistently available to attend sessions
- Tablets or laptops with internet and video capability for both the participating teen and parent (if taking part in the program virtually)
