Onsite pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programming funded by Alberta Education’s Program Unit Funding (PUF).

What is Program Unit Funding (PUF)?

CFASA is a private Early Childhood Services (ECS) operator and offers onsite Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programming for children who qualify for Program Unit Funding (PUF).

Alberta Education provides PUF for children with developmental disabilities who require additional learning support. More information about Alberta Education’s PUF can be found HERE.

PUF is educationally focused funding for students registered in an ECS program. This allows children between 2 years 8 months and 5 years 11 months of age to access services to further their learning, emotional regulation, and general development.

Funding can be provided for up to a maximum of three years.

CFASA’s onsite PUF program serves all students who meet the criteria, regardless of whether or not they have a diagnosis of autism. Eligibility is dependent on numerous factors which we would be happy to discuss with you.

Our Program:

Providing high-quality daily support early in life can dramatically improve a child’s ability to learn and succeed in school. Our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms focus on familiarizing your child with the school environment, routines, and engagement with peers. Our goal is to prepare your child to attend Grade 1 in your community neighbourhood school.

Our programming is based on the best available evidence, your child’s values and preferences, and our experience in early childhood development. We use a naturalistic developmental behavioural approach, an approach proven to be effective for children with autism. This means that we use a mix of play and structured activities that focus on typical developmental milestones and that are taught with evidence-based principles. We follow the Alberta Education Curriculum.

We offer:

  • Small class sizes to support your child’s learning needs and play with peers.
  • High teacher-to-student ratios.
  • Educational assistants.
  • Occupational Therapist.
  • Speech Language Pathologist.
  • School days are from Monday through Thursday (no school on Fridays).
  • Collaboration and coordinated support for home and school-based services (where applicable).
    • For example, if your child is receiving Specialized Services at CFASA, we will coordinate Specialized Services and PUF programming through your Centre team, simplifying communication and ensuring consistency.
  • Transportation (please note transportation is dependent on several factors and cannot be guaranteed to all families).

In our classrooms:

  • We prioritize our students to be happy, relaxed and engaged at school.
  • Students participate in a routine that is filled with learning experiences in the areas of academic engagement, communication/ socialization, play, motor skills, and self-help skills.
  • We have a strong emphasis on increasing independence and maximizing school readiness.
  • We collect daily information about your child’s learning, and we move students through goals at their own pace.
