Teen Summer Coordinator

 

We are seeking a passionate and organized Teen Summer Coordinator to oversee our interest-based community summer programming. The Teen Summer Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing a diverse range of activities tailored to the interests of our participants. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leadership and program development, excellent communication skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with Autistic teens.

Teen summer programming will be based out of various locations throughout the Edmonton area including, but not limited to, the Citadel Theatre, the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, and the ACT Recreation Centre.

Programming will run Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

 

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Coordinator, Community Programs and community partners, develop and implement a comprehensive schedule of interest-based program for teens
  • Collaborate with community partners, program staff and volunteers to ensure activities align with program goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with community partners contributing their expertise to the program (e.g. arts week, Urban Adventure activities, recreational programming based out of our partnered City of Edmonton recreation centres)
  • Coordinate logistics such as equipment, supplies, and facilities to support program activities
  • Support participants with engagement if/when they are feeling distressed
  • Communicate regularly with participants and their families to provide updates and gather feedback
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to enhance the program
  • Supervise staff and volunteers; providing regular feedback and coaching
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and risk management procedures
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for participants, staff, and volunteers
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of the interest-based approach through participant feedback and staff observation

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress in the following areas: recreation management, education, disability studies, psychology, etc.
  • Previous experience coordinating programs or events, preferably in a camp or recreational setting
  • Previous experience working with teens with Autism and/or other developmental disabilities
  • Comfortable supporting campers with basic self-care tasks (if required)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and environments
  • Comfortable swimming and supporting campers in the water, including public swimming pools
  • Standard First Aid with CPR – Level C and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Clear Police Information Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Clear Child Intervention Record Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training provided during orientation

 

** As these positions are funded through the Canada Summer Job Grant, applicants are required to:

  • be between 18 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment; legally entitled to work in Canada

 

Rate: $24.00/hour

 

Dates of employment: May 25, 2026 to August 18, 2026

  • May 25 – June 26: Planning and preparing for summer programming, conducting participant intakes, and communicating with families; final week of preparation before the participants arrive, which includes providing counselor training (35 hours/week)
  • June 29 to August 14: Collaborate with Assistant Coordinators to lead summer programs, supporting participants, staff and volunteers (40 hours/week)
  • August 17 & 18: final paperwork; clean-up (two 8-hour days)
