Supporting Communication: Supporting Autistic Students in the Classroom (Pre-K through Grade 6)
About the Workshop:
This workshop will equip teachers and support staff with strategies to support the diverse communication needs of all students. Participants will explore ways to support both understanding and expression of language, while learning how to integrate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to ensure all students can engage meaningfully in the school environment.
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Agenda:
- 8:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.: Welcome and Introductions
- 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.: Communication for Understanding
- 10:45 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Break
- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Communication for Expressing
- 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Lunch (on your own)
- 1:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.: Augmentative and Alternative Communication
- 3:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Wrap-up
