PreSchool Teacher (Full-time, Contract (EDMONTON))

We are hiring a 1.0 FTE teaching position in our Early Childhood Services (PUF) Preschool classroom. This individual would work with us from October 2023 to June 28, 2024 to cover a Parental Leave.

The role of the PUF Teacher is to develop, coordinate, implement, monitor, and evaluate programming for each student in collaboration with the clinical team and educational assistants.

Morning and afternoon classes run Monday to Thursday 8:45 – 11:45 am, and 12:45 – 3:45 pm, respectively. School contact hours are from 8:15 am to 4:15 pm. Fridays are scheduled for preparation, team collaboration, staff meetings, and IPP prep/meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee all PUF program components for each student in collaboration with the clinical team
  • Provide direct and individualized instruction in all academic and developmental areas
  • Focus on preparing students for learning in other school systems
  • Collaborate with the child’s specialized services team (as appropriate), supporting the common approach of PUF and SS programming
  • Develop and manage IPPs
  • Oversee and lead IPP meetings for each student
  • Collaborate with SLP, OT, and EAs for individual and group programming
  • Work collaboratively with parents/guardians on their child’s respective goals, plans, and challenges
  • Complete reports, assessments, and IPPs as required
  • Promote an inclusive education environment, embracing neurodiversity
  • Supervise, train, coach, and mentor the PUF EAs
  • Prepare EA professional development when required
  • Complete EA evaluations
  • Promote the Centre’s PUF program, attending school fairs, school meetings, or other events as required

Qualifications:

  • Alberta Education Teacher’s Licence
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in early childhood settings

 

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • Naturalistic developmental behavioural interventions for preschool and school-aged children on the autism spectrum
  • Theory and principles of child development
  • Early Childhood Services

  • Computer training, knowledge, and experience in the following computer software applications
    • MS Office Professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Clean Criminal Record Check
  • Clean Child Intervention Check
  • Valid certification in Child and Infant CPR and First Aid
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is an asset
  • Maintain registration with a professional body as applicable
