Human Resources Generalist (Full-time Permanent (CALGARY))

This is a Full-time Permanent position.


Job Summary:

The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily Human Resource (HR) functions for the Centre in Calgary, including the recruiting, hiring, and onboarding of new staff, submitting all payroll changes, managing employee entitlements including vacation and benefits, leading and managing occupational health and safety requirements, and enforcing company policies and practices.

The HR Generalist requires knowledge of employment standards, staffing, and compensation, as well as the ability to understand and resolve HR-related issues and concerns in an effective and efficient manner.

The HR Generalist will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining all required staff documentation, background checks, and training information.

The HR Generalist must possess excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills. This position requires focus on details and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  1. Human Resource Practices:
  • Advertise, screen, interview, and verify references of candidates for employment
  • Prepare employment letters and compensation information
  • Maintain and update personnel files to ensure all documentation is active and/or present
  • Actively participate in recruitment drives and career fairs
  • Proactively report trends and issues to the Director of HR and the Director of Clinical Services
  • Monitor and ensure performance evaluations and feedback forms are consistently being used with Interventionists; tracking completions
  • Lead the Occupational Health and Safety responsibilities in Calgary, under the direction of the HR director: stay abreast of all changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and changes in labour regulations to ensure all accreditation requirements are met
  • Collaborate on the development and delivery of effective staff orientation and onboarding in Calgary
  • Coordinate return-to-work plans and WCB reporting for Calgary staff as required
  • Under the direction of the Director of HR, support Centre Managers in the creation and delivery of performance improvement plans and implementing progressive discipline as a final resort
  • Monitor and track training requirements across the Centre, communicating expiry dates and classroom dates to staff as required
  • Monitor and track background checks, communicating expiry dates and renewal processes to staff as required
  • Assist in the registration and tracking of Interventionist training and professional development
  • Support the Calgary team with employment issues if and when they arise
  • Lead the performance review cycle for salaried staff in Calgary
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are being followed in Calgary




  • Diverse experience managing complex issues and leading human resource initiatives
  • Related degree in Human Resources, Human Services, Business Administration
  • CPHR designation is an asset
  • Minimum 2 years of work-related experience
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Employment Labour Standards
  • Effective use of computer software applications (MS Office Professional)
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, time and resource management and interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Clear Police Information Record Check
  • Clean Intervention Record Check
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is an asset



Supervision Received:

  • Receives overall direction from and sets annual performance goals with the Director of Human Resources
  • Monthly supervision meetings are held with the Director of Human Resources to consult on any issues related to scheduling, workload management, problem-solving, and any other issues that may impact the Centre.
